Soul Formula: What It Is and How to Calculate It
Soul Formula is a method of self-knowledge created by the Russian astrologer Alexander Astrogor. Unlike a natal chart, which shows HOW planets work, the Soul Formula answers the question "WHY are you here?".
It is not a horoscope in the usual sense. It is a "cosmic resume" – a document that outlines your talents, tasks, and the path of your soul.
How does the Soul Formula differ from a natal chart?
Imagine that a natal chart is a geographical map of the area, and the Soul Formula is your personal navigator with a route already laid out. A natal chart shows opportunities and obstacles, while the Soul Formula shows the goal of the journey.
How the Soul Formula is constructed
The formula is written as a chain of planets, arranged in descending order of their strength in the horoscope. The key rule is: each planet is governed by the one before it.
Structure:
[Formula Center] — planet #1 (main ruler)
↓
[Orbits] — planets #2, #3... (by chain of command)
The Formula Center is the planet that is in its domicile (sign of rulership). For example, if Venus is in Taurus or Libra, it is in the center. If no planet is in its domicile, the planet in exaltation becomes the center.
The chain of command is built as follows:
- Determine the sign in which the planet is located.
- Find the ruler of that sign.
- Connect the planets with arrows.
- You get a chain that shows the subordination of energies.

Orbits – near and far
Planets in the NEAR orbits are your working tools, what you use every day. Planets in the FAR orbits are reserve talents that are activated in special situations.
Example: A person has the Sun in the center, Mercury in the first orbit, Mars in the second. This means: they realize themselves through creativity (Sun), using intellect and communication (Mercury), and in crisis situations, they activate will and pressure (Mars).
